Ahhh, naptime. The only part of the day where I can actually concentrate on the things that I need to get done. Usually I spend this time cleaning, folding laundry, picking up toys...you know all the super fun stuff that I just LOVE to do. But lately I have been distracted from my housework by my sewing machine. As soon as I put the kids in to bed I can hear it calling..."come on, you've got nothing better to do, sit down and turn me on!"
Last week's distraction was this cute little pillowcase dress. The pillowcase came from a set I already had so it was a free project! Gotta love free fabric.
It was super easy to make, and looks cute as a sundress and over leggings and a long sleeve shirt for the winter!
Today's project was a super quick one, so I can't even say it was a distraction. I was pulling my twin boys' laundry basket across the house to the laundry room and wondering to myself why I still haven't put a liner in it to make my life a little easier. Well, duh! It's because I didn't have a sewing machine before and I never wanted to spend the money to buy cute liner! So I found a curtain from our old house that I wasn't going to use anymore, (yea! more free fabric!!!) and whipped up a cute basket liner complete with handles.
It looks way cuter now, and makes dragging their laundry around much easier for me!

Call Me Crafty!
I have a new obsession. This year for Christmas my Hubby bought me something that I have been wanting probably since high school.
Yea!!!Yup, a sewing machine, that's what I have been wanting for so long...yeah, I know, I'm kinda a dork! Well, since trying this baby out, I have gone a little craft crazy. I have already made sundresses for my two Punkins, a bassinet liner for a friend who is having her first baby, and a bib and some funny little Peepee Teepees for my bestest friend who just had her fourth baby! ( She just HAD to catch up to me, lol)
My girls modeling their new dresses. I think Madison has found her calling!
Bassinet Liner
Bib and Peepee Teepees!
I have totally fallen in love with sewing, so I'm sure there will be more projects to come...I may have to change my title from The Baking Mom to The Domestic Diva! Ha Ha Ha!!!

Happy New Year!
A new year, a new me...and I'm ready for take-off! LOL, yeah I know, a little cheesy. But what better way to start off the post about my very first carved cake! While everyone else was getting ready to party on New Year's Eve, I was home baking and carving an airplane. Now this could have been a complete disaster, but with the awesome new knife set my Hubby got me for Christmas it was way easier than I expected. Hubby was working, but all four kiddos were being so cooperative and well behaved. Or so I thought...
"MOM! The boys and Abby are coloring on the chair!" yells Madison. I run over expecting to see a few little crayon marks. Abby, my 19 month old, looks up at me, points to the chair and says "Riwey". Yup, 19 months old and already looking out for #1. Well, I guess that's what I get for thinking I could get any work done while they were all awake. On the bright side, my first carving turned out pretty darn good, I think.
Here's my airplane, carved and crumb-coated. It was a strawberry cake with vanilla buttercream.
And here's the final product...now I know I'm no professional, but I'm pretty proud of how it turned out. And luckily the recipient loved it too!
